Your Perioperative Journey
We will work closely with your surgeon to ensure that your procedure is carried out safely and as comfortably as possible. Before we move into the operating theatre, we will assess you in the pre-operative area and answer any questions you may have. During your surgery, we will be supported by an anaesthetic nurse who will assist in applying monitoring equipment. These monitors allow us to closely track your vital signs and ensure your safety throughout the procedure. Depending on the type of surgery, we may recommend a regional anaesthetic technique—either in addition to or instead of a general anaesthetic—to help optimise your recovery and reduce post-operative pain. Once you are asleep and your surgery is underway, we will continuously monitor your condition until the procedure is complete. We will also be there as you wake up, to help ensure a smooth and comfortable recovery. Our goal is to provide you with attentive, expert care throughout your surgical journey, and to minimise any pain or discomfort afterwards. If you have any questions or concerns, We will be available to discuss them with you before your procedure.
Patient FAQs
What does an anaesthetist do?
Your anaesthetist is a specialist doctor responsible for your wellbeing and safety during surgery, managing your pain, and monitoring your vital functions throughout the procedure.
How is my safety managed?
Safety is our priority. We use advanced monitoring technology and tailored anaesthesia plans based on your medical history to ensure a secure and controlled environment.
What are the fasting instructions?
Generally, you must skip food for 6 hours and clear fluids for 2 hours before surgery. We will provide specific instructions tailored to your procedure time.
How is pain controlled after surgery?
We use a combination of techniques, including local blocks and modern medications, to ensure you remain comfortable and transition smoothly into recovery.
What is it like waking up?
You will wake up in a dedicated recovery room under constant care. Most patients feel drowsy initially, but this clears quickly as the medication wears off.
When should I contact the team after surgery?
Contact us if you experience unexpected severe pain, persistent nausea, or any symptoms discussed during your consultation. We are here to support your recovery.
Anaesthesia Fees
We prioritize transparency and clarity in our billing process. Our goal is to ensure you are fully informed about your anaesthetic costs well in advance, providing reassurance and peace of mind without any surprise bills.
01
Fee Calculation
Your total surgical costs are composed of three independent fees: the anaesthetist's professional fee, the hospital facility fee, and the surgeon's fee.
02
Medicare & Health Funds
Private health insurance and Medicare rebates typically cover a portion of the anaesthesia fee. The amount covered depends on your specific policy and the procedure type.
03
Out-of-Pocket Costs
Often there is a 'gap' or out-of-pocket cost. We will discuss this quote with you during your pre-operative consultation to ensure financial consent is obtained early.
04
Payment Timing
Depending on the procedure and health fund, payment may be requested prior to surgery or an invoice issued following your discharge from the hospital.
